ŠperkStret 2008

"Between Construction and Emotion"

Compared to other years, the Šperk Stret conference in 2008 was more extensive with many additional events also thanks to the financial support of the Ministry of Culture of Slovak Republic.

During the two day-long lecturing marathon on the topic “Between construction and emotion”, 13 domestic and foreign authors introduced their works. Three professors were the conference program headliners: Deganit Stern Schocken (IL), the head of studio s+m+l_XL Metal and jewellery Karol Weisslechner and the head of the Prague studio Metal and Jewel Eva Eisler.

A power trio of artists dealing with jewelry from the woman’s point of view was comprised by: Sylvia Jokelová (SK), Stefanie Klemp (DE) and Bety K. Majerniková (SK). Also, three jewelers with notably individualistic points of view introduced their approach: Gisbert Stach (DE), Kepa Karmona (SP) and Ulrich Reithofer (A).

Theoretical standpoints and curator experience were represented by: theorist and art historian Miroslav Cogan (CZ) and the co-founder of Travelling Symposium Sonia Ruiz de Arakaute (SP), art and aesthetics theorist Jozef Kovalčik (SK) and jeweler and art theorist Mária Nepšinská (SK).

The Travel Symposium international project, organized every year in a different European city, was also a part of the conference. An inspiring dialogue with this exhibition was lead by studio s+m+l_XL Metal and jewellery student project Golden Folder, which was installed in travel suitcases in Medium gallery along with several other Slovak jewelers’ exhibitions.
